"A variety of people have helped shape who I am."
As I look back on the short time I’ve had on earth, I realize that the people I’ve encountered have made a huge impact on me. This goes along with a quote I keep in my mind: “You are an average of the five people you spend the most time with.” A similar one that’s meaningful to me is, “Who you become depends on the books you read and the people you meet.”
I think about my parents and all the sacrifices they made to give me opportunities to play sports, take piano lessons, go on fun vacations, and more. I think about leaders at my church who helped me become a better person, and who really seemed to care about me. Through the ups and the downs, the great people and the challenging people, you learn and grow and develop more into yourself based on these experiences.
Though thousands of small experiences have shaped me into who I am today, one story that has really impacted occurred while serving a mission for my church in Colombia; I learned humility and gratitude. I was in awe when I watched a fellow missionary throw away old, dirty, and stained clothes, and then watched a man from Venezuela seem mad and frustrated at the missionary for doing so. He picked up the shirts, looked at them, and told us there was nothing wrong with them. He planned to use them for himself and his family. Truly, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. It taught me to think twice about throwing something away or writing something off as unusable or unwanted, and instead try to find a way to find utility in what no longer serves me.
It is such a great opportunity I have at Allos to watch people go through life, experiencing the ups and downs, and to be a support to help them through it.
Outside of work, my passions include: I love competition. I love to do anything that involves a ball, bat, frisbee, etc. I love fishing, hunting, shooting my bow, gardening, riding motorcycles and hiking.
How old is the oldest pair of shoes in your closet? I have several pairs of shoes that are probably over 10 years old.
One goal i am saving for: A few goals are a new bow, a new motorcycle, and new flooring in our house.
One thing I'm doing to make the world better: I work each day to become a better father, who in turn will send out great children into the world to help more people.
